The 1980′s, I remember them well. Atari the first company to register 2 computer games “Asteroid” and “Lunar Landar” in 1980 went on to release the very popular Atari 2600 video console game. 1981 saw the release of the film, Tron quickly followed by its Tron toys and by 1982, a fifteen year old student, Rich Skrenta had created the first known computer virus, probably on his weighty, 25lb mobile computer. Meanwhile other kids were devoting their time (less destructively) in solving Rubiks Cube or trying to keep up with the coloured lights and harmonic tones on their Simon game. Happy days….

In the 1970′s boys toys tended to be the most varied. Girls had dolls and cookery sets, but it was the boys that got the good stuff. They had shoot ‘em up cap guns, chemistry sets, Marvel superheroes, Chopper bikes, Meccano and fun film themed die-casts. Girls could play with these toys too (and most likely did) but it was the male youth the advertisers were directing their merchandise at.
